Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update
Please find below the sixth edition of our Coronavirus (Covid-19) update.

Today we’ve highlighted some of the inspirational stories that we’re hearing about from the rugby community working with their local communities and also England Rugby’s message of support for the NHS. We’ve also provided an update on the Adult Male Future Competition Structure consultations, Payment of Players declaration, an update on DBS checks and the webinar that is taking place next week regarding the financial support packages available. In addition, as it is Easter, there is an update on some fun activities that may interest younger club members.

Please visit our dedicated web portal on the England Rugby website to access Coronavirus (Covid-19) information and updates .

We’ve also captured past editions of these twice-weekly updates on this part of the website too. Click here if you need to find a previous edition.

We will continue to provide regular updates through this communication to support the rugby community.

England Rugby Thank You to NHS

With people up and down the country clapping their support for NHS workers, Twickenham Stadium’s turf has been marked with a message of appreciation for those on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic.

Chief Executive, Bill Sweeney comments: “There are no crowds at the Home of England Rugby right now but the sound of a nation applauding the NHS workers is as loud as any rugby crowd. We wanted to add our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the rugby community and pay tribute to all of our NHS heroes.

“I would also like to thank Amayze for coming into the stadium to create the 3-D message.”

Emergency Loan Scheme

Click here to access information, or process an application, for the first phase of the Emergency Loan Scheme, which is open until Thursday 30 April 2020.

DBS checks

We are implementing a temporary suspension of DBS checks while the government’s current social distancing measures remain in force.

This decision has been made in light of the cessation of all rugby activity and the difficulties inherent in an online ID verification system that will require in-person checks to be completed at some point in the future. The pausing of applications in rugby will enable the DBS Service to concentrate on dealing with the thousands of disclosure requests that are being made by returning keyworkers, NHS volunteers etc.

We will keep this under constant review and intend to resume processing applications prior to the commencement of rugby activity to ensure that clubs have sufficient time to prepare for the upcoming season.

Club Safeguarding Officers will receive additional information by email.

Covid-19 Government & England Rugby support webinar

We will be running a webinar on Thursday 16 April from 7.00pm to 8.00pm to help rugby clubs understand the support available from the RFU, government and Sport England. If you wish to take part in this event, please register in advance here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email which will provide instructions on how to join the event. A programme of further club support webinars will be announced shortly.

Media Support Workshop

As we continue to work our way through these uncertain times, we are looking at additional ways in which the RFU can support the rugby community, and ahead of the next phase of the Covid 19 action plan; Game Reboot, would like to host a media support workshop.

The aim of the virtual workshop would be for us to provide hints and ideas on things you can be doing now to share with your local media. We would also like to have a discussion on what things we can provide to assist you once we are able to get the game back up and running.

Ideally, we would be keen for the webinar to be attended by whoever you have nominated to look after your communications. Please could the HonSec of each CB email charlottetrusson@rfu.com to advise who should be on the list to receive an invitation next week to join the virtual webinar which will take place week of 20 April.
