Community Rugby Injury Surveillance and Prevention (CRISP) Project 2023-24
Hello Gerald

Run in conjunction with the University of Bath, the CRISP Project collects injury data from across the community game. Critical to gaining better understanding and providing data to compare and assess injury risk trends across different playing populations and levels of the game, the project informs us of injury prevention strategies, such as law/rule changes, and helps us improve the safety of the game.

For the CRISP Project to be a success, we need clubs and teams to get involved and help improve the safety of the game and the welfare of their players.

With the tackle height law changes introduced for the 2023/24 season, involving teams from across different playing populations is even more important for the CRISP Project.

It will be used to monitor any potential changes in injury patterns in the community game following the tackle height law variations changes. A large sample of injury data is crucial in allowing us to understand any changes in injury patterns. That is why our clubs are so important in providing the data to benefit the rugby community.

We are looking for involvement from teams from any playing population – adult males, adult female (especially National Championship levels), club age grade boys and girls (especially U16 & U18 girls), male school/college players, and university male and female teams.

Participating teams are asked to record information during the season about matches played and details about injuries sustained by players. They will receive a report of their team’s match injuries compared with the averages for teams of a similar playing level. Data recording is quick and easy via the CRISP online data entry system, or through a new CRISP reporting module which will be available within the Proactive reporting system (if your club uses this).

Please do play your part in improving player safety! For more information/or to register you interest, check out the following poster or visit the RugbySafe Research Toolkit.
